Cashback is a great way to get some extra money off on your everyday shopping and purchases each month.
Whether you're shopping for the best deals during Black Friday, Cyber Monday or the various Amazon sales, or simply doing your everyday shopping online, it's always worth checking in on cashback sites to see if you could get some money back.
Highstreet and established online retailers such as Argos, John Lewis, AO, Currys and GAME tend to have offers running regularly. However, specialist brands sometimes offer enhanced sign-up bonuses for things like Disney+ subscriptions, NOW broadband, mobile phone contracts or maybe food subscriptions.
At the time of writing, Quidco is paying 9.75% cashback on Disney+ subscriptions, while TopCashback is paying £13 back for a Disney+ annual subscription.
It's not guaranteed that you'll always get cashback, and sometimes retailers might only be offering the best rates on specific product categories rather than everything they sell, such as homeware, fashion or technology, but it's always worth having a look while you're shopping.
Often you'll need to ensure that you don't have any other points tools, such as Honey, or discount codes active at the same time as cashback, as this can cancel them out.
Why are they doing all this? Good question. Cashback sites work with affiliates, similar to many publishers and retailers, including Digital Spy, where brands can pay in return for sending traffic, sign-ups or new customer purchases.
Cashback sites essentially share a bit of that revenue with customers, similar to YouTubers or influencers, who might offer their own special sign-up links around their content.
Digital Spy's Editor-in-Chief tried out TopCashback across the last six months and has made a total of £141.22 so far, from the likes of Argos, B&Q, Homebase, eBay, Booking.com and Gousto. Cashback sites seem especially good for DIY and homeware items.
The important thing to remember, as MoneySavingExpert explains, is that you should still focus on the best and most affordable deals, and purchasing items you actually want, rather than retailers paying the most cashback.
It's like a cherry on top, rather than the reason to buy the whole cake.
So how do you do it? Well, the good news is, it's really straightforward, we've compiled the top two cashback sites below, along with some of the best current offers.
Cashback websites UK: Quidco
Quidco is the main rival to TopCashback, as the pair are essentially market leaders, you can see Top Cashback's comparison between them here.
The basic membership is free, but you can also use Quidco Premium, which charges £1 per month, to access a 10% cashback top-up, higher payout bonuses and an ad-free experience. Meanwhile, if you cash out your cashback for gift cards it can sometimes get you a higher amount back.
To take advantage, firstly sign up to Quidco, and then once you've created your account, search for the retailer you're looking to shop through while on the Quidco website.
Then check you're happy with the rate, check the specific rules around the purchase (sometimes the cashback might not be valid, or simply lower on tech, for instance) and then click through to retailers website, and shop as normal.

Cashback websites UK: TopCashback
TopCashback sometimes has higher rates than Quidco, so it's worth signing up for both, and checking both when you're shopping for something specific.
Basic membership is free, but they also have a paid tier, which deducts £5 from your payouts when you cash out to access higher percentages.
You can be paid via PayPal, or to your bank account, or even donate to charity if you would like. If you get one of your friends to sign up you can get £25 cashback, which you'll get once they earn £10 cashback themselves.
To take advantage, sign up for TopCashback then search for the retailer you want to shop at, and check you're happy with their cashback rate, and any specific rules around purchases. Then click through their link, and then shop as normal. You can see if your clicks have been tracked under your 'earnings' section, by checking 'clicks to merchants'.
During our usage, we found a couple of instances where the cashback from retailers on TopCashback didn't track, which meant we had to report the purchase date, order number, amount and details.
So far only one of those was rejected, and others were resolved in a few weeks, although sometimes you have to 'nudge' the merchant to resolve the claim.
